Our designers apply their experience and talent to making each piece unique. At Akaba we also enjoy a shared vision with each of our collaborating designers. All of our collections therefore share a common design DNA providing unity throughout while conveying the brand values. 

Gabriel Teixidó

Gabriel Teixidó

Industrial designer.
Efficient solutions and a natural talent for creating successful products combined with an extensive career have earned this designer recognition in the world of design. 
Gabriel Teixidó entered the field of industrial design in the 70s as a freelancer. 
“for me the greatest reward is that people use what I make and that it continues to exist for as long as possible”.
He was born in Barcelona in 1947
His father, a “model-maker” taught him the culture of the hands
He trained at the School of Applied Arts and Crafts in Barcelona (1964-1969)
He was a teacher at the EINA School (1996-2000)
He was a board member of ADI-FAD (1997-1999)

Pensi Design Studio

Pensi Design Studio

Pensi Design Studio has been awarded numerous prizes and has received widespread recognition throughout his career, including the Spanish National Design Prize in 1997, awarded by the Ministry of Industry and Energy and the BCD Foundation for outstanding professional achievement. If there is one thing which defines Pensi Design Studios products, it is their timelessness. Among the most well-known designs we can name the Gorka program for Akaba (1993), the Hola series for Kusch+Co (1993), Glassbox for Disform (1995), the Temps chair for Punt Mobles (1997) and the Artico and Duna collection for Cassina (1998).

Francesc Rifé

Francesc Rifé

His career as an interior and industrial designer begins during the period of his academic training through various collaborations with architecture and design studios. He also assumes personal projects. In 1994 he founded his own studio in Barcelona and currently leads a team of professionals trained in various fields of design. His projects, national and international, range from interior to industrial design in the commercial and private sectors. The studio also has considerable experience in graphic design projects, photography and art direction. Its design philosophy is based on the spatial and geometric proportion. Throughout his career Rifé has received many prizes in the field of design, like ContractWorld Awards, ICFF Editors Awards, Ascer Prizes, and FAD Awards. Also, he has been nominated for the National Design Awards and the Delta Awards for Industrial Design. His work has been widely reported in the press and specialized publications and books nationally and internationally. Also, several books that collect his most outstanding works have been published. Currently he combines teaching with an active role in workshops, meetings, and conferences throughout the Spanish territory and internationally.

Iratzoki Lizaso

Iratzoki Lizaso

Iratzoki Lizaso is an industrial design studio created in the Basque Country, in 2016. Having worked together over several years, Jean Louis Iratzoki and Ander Lizaso decided to form a partnership. Ably supported by their experienced team, they work closely with both small companies and large corporations.

Their work encompasses various areas of design: home and office furniture, textiles, lighting, ephemeral architecture and accessories. Jean Louis Iratzoki and Ander Lizaso are also the artistic directors of certain brands. From their work emerge enduring items that inspire emotion and affection.

Isaac Piñeiro

Isaac Piñeiro

Isaac Piñeiro (Pontevedra, 1976) is a product designer based in Barcelona. After graduating from Mestre Mateo Santiago Art School he moved to Valencia where he studied product design at EASD. He continued is training at Scuola Politécnica di Milano, where he had the chance to learn from professionals like Odoardo Foiravanti, Huub Ubbens and Matali Crasset.

After a fruitful career as co-founder of the multidisciplinary design studio Nadadora. In 2017 begins a new stage with the creation of Isaac Piñeiro Design Studio, to continue developing product design projects. His main objective is to create intuitive products based on a quest for efficiency in the conception, production and design.

His work has been published and exhibited in several media, museums, and international fairs. His latest acknowledgement, among others, is the Best of the Year 2017 prize for Interior Design Magazine for his Tortuga seats collection.

Tabuenca & Leache

Tabuenca & Leache

Tabuenca & Leache, Architects, since their foundation have developed a wide variety of projects from architecture (official buildings, industrial, sport centers, cultural, education, religious, etc), renovations, urban development, real state, interior design and product design. They have been awarded with several prizes and recognitions from different Institutions such as Spanish High Commission for Architecture, Architect's Association Basque Country-Navarra, Architect's Association of Madrid, Madrid Town Hall, the Ministry of Culture, Hyspalit, ASCER, MDA UNAV, ECOLA, Frate Sole Foundation, FAD Foundation, Delta ADI FAD and Mies Van der Rohe Foundation. In 1997, they were selected by the prestigious architects Rafael Moneo and Alvaro Siza, together with another 5 architectural studios, to be among the most relevant Iberian architects and to show their work on the 1st Spanish-Portuguese Architectural Exhibition held by the Dukes of Soria Foundation. Their work has been published in different national and international specialized publications such as El Croquis, AIT, Arquitectura Viva, AV, A+T, "Young Spanish Architects" (Birkhäuser), Diseño Interior, Guía de Arquitectura española 1929-1996, Detail, Casabella and A+U.

Perry A. King / Santiago Miranda

Perry A. King / Santiago Miranda

Santiago Miranda and Perry King create a multidisciplinary team from the fusion of two design concepts. One Mediterranean and the other one Anglo-Saxon, one industrial designer and the other one educated in plastic arts and design.

King & Miranda are the authors of a number of books, juries at international design conquests and have developed an intense carrier in educational and research activities.

Ander Lizaso

Ander Lizaso

Ander Lizaso (Oiartzun, 1986) is a Basque industrial designer. He studied engineering and design at the University of Mondragon and at the Instituto Europeo di Design in Madrid. During his last years of education, he oriented his interests towards furniture design and presented his first pieces at the Salone Satelite 2011, the section for new talents at the Milan fair.

In 2012 he began working with Jean Louis Iratzoki, with whom he associated in 2016 to create a joint studio under the brand Iratzoki & Lizaso in the French Basque Country. During this period, he built a solid basis of knowledge and experience both in the area of product design and in artistic direction.

In 2022 he embarked on a new personal project with the creation of Ander Lizaso Studio in his native Oiartzun. From his studio he collaborates with local as well as international companies and projects.

His approach to design is honest and critical at the same time. He runs away from some of the sector’s classic vices and tries to design lasting products that develop links with the user.

Miguel Angel Ciganda

Miguel Angel Ciganda

He has carried out more tan 500 interior design projects. Among his most representative contract and interior design projects are the Headquarters of the Caja de Ahorros Municipal in Pamplona, the Spanish Pavilion at the Seville’s Universal Exposition and more recently the Gran Hotel Costa Meloneras in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and the Hotel Jardines de Nivaria in Tenerife.

Since 1984he starts working as an Industrial Designer, collaborating with many Spanish and foreign companies. Among his most well known creations are the bench Compás and the Laberinto Table (Casas), the Serena collection (Martínez Otero) and the Veroca lamp (B. Lux).

Dhemen Design

Dhemen Design

In 1995, Igor and Asier founded Dhemen Design. What had begun as a game when they were children had become their profession. Four years later, Mikel, the youngest brother, joined them in the studio. In the year 2003, Dhemen moved to Orio, a privileged location between the sea, the bay and the mountains, where the Esnal brothers and their team carry out their creative activities.

They share their professional activity and working on product research with Inasmet, the San Sebastian based technology centre.

Patxi Mangado

Patxi Mangado

Born in Navarra, Spain in 1957. Graduated as an architect from the Superior School of Architecture of the University of Navarra, where he later developed his academic career as a professor, in addition to teaching at the Harvard Graduate School of Design, at the University of Texas UTA and the International University in Catalunya, as well as other schools. He has received the Andrea Palladio Architecture Prize, the Thiene Architecture Prize, the Architecti Prize, the CEOE First Place Prize and the FAD among others.

Among his works and apart of private housing and awarded urban developments, we can highlight cultural centres, exhibition and convention centres, museums and office buildings through out European cities.

Pascual Salvador

Pascual Salvador

He studies Industrial Design at the Massana School in Barcelona where he graduates in 1974. He became Architect Interior Designer in 1977. Industrial Design teacher and usual collaborator in different Schools and Universities in Spain and abroad.

In 1990 he opens his own studio in Barcelona and collaborates since then with important Spanish companies in matters such as design, product specifying and corporate image. Among his most well-know designs are the program Acta (Vilagrasa), the lamp Galilea (Carpyen) and the Capa chair (Jacinto Usan). He collaborates with Akaba since 1990 designing programs like Egoki and Apal.

Muka Design Lab

Muka Design Lab

Muka Design Lab is an industrial design studio which has won a number of awards, specialising in creating furniture, household goods and small appliances with identity and character.

They work with leading craftspeople and local workshops to design everyday objects that people adore. Everything, from sustainable furniture to the design concepts they create, begins with a story breathing life into each object.

Their work has been featured in AD Architectural Design, Fast Company, Archi Expo, Dezeen and El País, has claimed prizes at international design exhibitions in Milan and Los Angeles, and also earned a Red Dot Award: Design Concept and a German Design Award.
